Well my favourite time of the year has arrived!!! August in Hervey Bay is all about Whales, Whales, Whales as the start of the migration period for the majestic Humpback Whales arrives! Hervey Bay as the capital of Whale Watching in Australia is the place to come and visit and with the whole month being planned to celebrate this special time of the year there is something for everyone on every weekend in August. Click here for the Events Calendar. Most events are Free entry or a small fee but there is plenty of free entertainment and activities throughout the events being planned.
If you are looking to do something different for a few hours and trying to get out of the rain and terrible weather we’ve been having, I highly recommed a visit to the new Fraser Coast Cultural Centre, on the corner of Old Maryborough Rd and Main St Pialba!!
For the small price of $5.50 adults and $4 kids (under 5 free) entry into the Discovery Sphere is a must, I was nicely surprised to see how much planning, time and money had gone into this innovative, attraction with modern interactive activities, information boards and a huge theatre where a range of movies based on Fraser Coast’s natural attractions are run on a loop every 15 mintutes. We spent 1.5 hours there and the kids just want to keep going back, I learnt so many things about the area I didn’t know and of course my eyes were opened to the amazing lives of those beautiful Humpbacks that visit our bay every year! And with the terrible weather we’ve been having lately they are open 7 days a week and almost every day of the year, giving us plenty of opportunities to get out of the house and check it out.
